On 30 June 2016, PLAYFRAME launched its ‘Designing the Organisation’ event series on Meetup’s online community platform. What motivated us to do this? Companies often have rigid structures: Processes are clearly defined and resources efficiently coordinated in line with these processes to deliver specific results. As a result, customers’ needs are all too often forgotten about.
We asked ourselves: ‘How can an organisation be led to a human-centred design approach?” The meetup is aimed at service designers, consultants and design thinkers who help organisations implement this approach. Every two months, people from the community will be invited to talks on exciting opportunities, interesting findings or new approaches.
First guest speaker: Manuel Funk, Consultant, Honeypump GmbH. In an academic paper, Funk critically examined the issue of ‘Innovation Labs in Germany’. In his talk, he answers the question of what innovation labs in Germany can do to avoid failure (‘Why do innovation labs and corporate acceleration fail?’). Mutual learning, followed up with discussions and casual conversations – this is what the new event series is all about. The next meetups will focus on issues such as the ‘innovation helix’ and ‘work hacks’.
The meetups will be hosted by agency owners Patrick Boltz/Vicky Tiegelkamp and Gabor Köhalmi (Design Thinking Consultant) as co-organisers. Australian designer Adam B. Cochrane accompanied the evening with his extraordinary sketch board.
